Believe me, Pakistan’s Government is lot better than of many other states. At least we have got the liberty of using many mediums for our communications, unlike Iran, that has banned SMS service on all cell phones, throughout the country.
(NCR Iran) National Council of Resistance of Iran has reported that Organization of Communications Regulations has putout new laws imposing restrictions on sending SMS. For a typical cell owner, he has to go through security checks by the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) to receive clearance for using the service – otherwise, no one will be able to send/receive SMS.
I purposefully praised Pakistan’s government, so govt chaps are not convinced to follow Iran here - as govt is fully geared this days, and we can expect them doing anything.

Today, industries are based on innovations. Similarly Cellular companies, like any other industry, require innovations and ideas to increase there subscribers’ base and net profits. Other than basic telephony services, they keep on attracting new customers by evolving ideas that are unique in there own way, which are new and never used before.
Well as a part of Pro Pakistani I am feeling pleasure to contribute my share for the Telecom companies, by floating my this idea – and I’m already loving it. Now lets come to the point.
What is Pic SIM?
The idea is called ‘Pic SIM’. Sounds weird but let me explain; how about a custom SIM card having your picture and name on it? So, here is my idea for the global telecom industry. A custom SIM designed for customers having there desired picture and name (or any text) on it. Continue Reading This Story

“After weapons’ manufacturing industry, ‘Telco Industry’ is the world largest domain, said a renowned Telecom analyst of Asia, and in deed Telco industry has been playing major role in market & benefiting consumers in day to day operations.
Call : Mom , lecture ended please pick me up from university, ok son , I will pick you up …
SMS: So do you agree? - yes , then Deal Done! …
SMS: thank you I have made the payment.
Call: What happened? Its accident, ok let me call 15 or 1122 to inform them about the injuries and losses & this list goes on….! Continue Reading This Story

Five Minutes Pulse Calls
Many of us miss those golden days when PTCL used to allow 5 minutes’ long calls. How about implementing this idea in cellular calls too? - makes sense? Okay price of this five minute call should be lesser than 5 multiples of one minute call; for instance, if one minute call is charged Rs. 2 per minute, than 5 minute call could be offered at Rs. 8 per minute or even Rs. 7.
Such a package will be picked a lot by ladies, who take couple of minutes before gearing the actual conversation. Same can be the case with few of gentlemen as well.
“Your Mobile is Switched Off” Caller Tune
This gonna be an interesting caller tune. Everyone gonna love it – but not the cellular companies. Reason is simple, who is going to pick the phone then? No One! Hence less revenues… but what if a tune is composed with such a message “App ka Matlooba number iss waqt band hay… hahaha ban giya na mamu, hold kar bulata hon” Continue Reading This Story

“Chinese will manage Pakistan’s market, and they will outplay everyone… They know how to get it”, I was told this by Mr. Frederic Rose, President then, Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent’s flagship company in China. He was here in Islamabad to sign one billion dollars network expansion contract assigned to Alcatel-Lucent by China Mobile, which had recently acquired Paktel.
He replied me up given line when I had asked him that Pakistan’s market is already well saturated, how come a cellular company starting from scratch will be able to compete with Giants like Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid… given that, all these four companies bear very strong financial background, as well expertise of running GSM networks in multiple regions.
I am wondering now that how true Mr. Rose was. Yes, China Mobile has proven itself as a brand now, and it looks like they are going to give tough time to other cellular companies in coming days.
The hardest part for China Mobile was to rebuild the image that had been lost by Paktel; often we see, it’s easy to make a new building, than of restructuring a damaged one.
Launch
I was discussing this success of Zong with Babar Bhatti, who was kind enough to give me time before leaving for US tomorrow, and he rightly spotted that China Mobile didn’t rush in launching its brand. Zong took its full time in preparation and came up with a very powerful launch campaign, though we found that campaign as copied one, but until then it had left its impact on Pakistanis. 1-2-3 Free offer is for all new and existing Postpaid customers – either they are individual customers or the corporate ones.
How to avail this offer?
- Visit your nearest business center
- Fill in the consent form
- Deposit 3 months line rental in advance as per your current or new upgraded package plan
- You are all set to enjoy the benefits offered by this offer
- In case of Corporate customers, contact your Corporate Account Manager to benefit from this offer.
- This offer is available only at Warid Business Centers
Clearly the race for customers’ retention is on. But there is another trick that Warid wants to play with their customers who are with old packages. It may be recalled that Warid had revised their postpaid packages and had increased monthly rental on all packages.
Now this 1-2-3- Free incentive is available for only new tariff plans, meaning that if you have old package, then you will have to upgrade it in order to avail the offer. I doubt if any customer will like to get one month’s free line rent and in return will pay more line rent every month.
On other hands, those customers who are running on upgraded tariff plans, may easily consider this offer.

Telenor, the Norwegian trans-national telecom giant, entered Pakistani market in March 2005. Within just three years, Telenor have acquired 18.4 million subscribers (as of September 2008), becoming the third largest mobile operator in Pakistan, an outstanding feat given the country’ s fierce competitive environment.
Despite this growth, Telenor Pakistan network congestion issues are known to Telenor customers. They include different issues like, voice distortion, anonymous voices with connected call etc.
These issues were because of :
- More than ten traditional HLRs were in the current network, with some having a capacity of as low as 1 million. This arrangement caused a range of problems in network management and maintenance:
- Networking was highly complex due to the large number of low-capacity HLRs. The customer service system needed to connect to, and adapt to, all the HLRs on the network, and the resulting complexity significantly raised maintenance costs. Continue Reading This Story
