OGRA’s website was hacked last evening; I was in office when I heard this breaking news on Geo TV. At
once, I searched for OGRA, and started looking for more information about this defacement. After little work I found that OGRA’s website was hacked by H M G group of script kiddies from India run by a guy call Sneak and they call themselves Guards of Hindustan and some define this group Hindu Militant Group.
I remember, it’s been a year when I spoke with the owner of this group for first time. He was just a kid then (in terms of hacking) He didn’t know much about hacking and security concerns. This guy had a group of friends, who were keen to know more and more about hacking and they intended to use their skills for fun purposes. Continue Reading This Story

All cellular companies, except Ufone, have collectively asked the government to reduce taxes on telecom services. In a collective letter, mobile phone companies have mentioned the government to reconsider increased GST, taxes on handsets and removal of SIM activation tax.
This was carried away after a significant decline in revenues and increased operational expenses of cellular companies. However, cellular companies are still awaiting any positive response from the government regarding this. Continue Reading This Story

Mobile broadband has become hot topic these days, especially with the launch of World Call EVDO in Karachi and expected launch of PTCL EVDO next month. It just seems like that EVDO is going to be the next burning business in the country. Though, WorldCall has somewhat failed to give an early impression, and also their absence in Lahore/Islamabad (Though they have plans to roll out EVDO in Lahore next month), but future seems promising. By the way, one of TGP discussion revealed that they are registering 25 new customers each day in Karachi. Continue Reading This Story

We know through our sources and a service glimpse given on PTCL’s website, that PTCL is planning to launch long awaited CDMA based wireless broadband in Pakistan from December 1st, 2008. Initially, service will be offered in Karachi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi and Lahore.
From early information provided, we can assume that a plug and play USB compatible device will be provided to customers, to get this always on Mobile Broadband.
After DSL and WiMAX I suppose such mobile broadband is something that Pakistan’s consumers are looking for. However, the pricing is going to play a major role in making such gadgets and services hot. However, it is anticipated that pricing will be quite high than of wired broadband - But we can expect anything from PTCL… Continue Reading This Story

Cyber Crime law, that re-emerged few days back, in shape of presidential order (despite, there is a parliament available, I am unable to comprehend what urgency was there that President had to put forward this ordinance, anyway, its not part of our discussion), we need to fully understand this law. Because, it can be really very crucial for us, as the law have all the capabilities for trapping any one of us.
There are certain discussions going on over the technology forums, where Gurus are pointing out several aspects of cyber crime law, similarly, I wanted to put forward my opinion and observations as well.
The first thing after going through the draft of this ordinance, is that it is largely un-practicable – due to incompetence of our law enforcement agencies, and overall judicial structure. There are good chances, that lawyers never ever carried away any training or courses for getting familiar with internet and computer related criminal procedures.
Government of UAE can be taken as a good example, for instance, they never make anything a law until they can’t implement it. Because, making a law without any implementation or without availing the technology to get the rules implemented, just introducing a law makes no sense at all. Continue Reading This Story

Today, industries are based on innovations. Similarly Cellular companies, like any other industry, require innovations and ideas to increase there subscribers’ base and net profits. Other than basic telephony services, they keep on attracting new customers by evolving ideas that are unique in there own way, which are new and never used before.
Well as a part of Pro Pakistani I am feeling pleasure to contribute my share for the Telecom companies, by floating my this idea – and I’m already loving it. Now lets come to the point.
What is Pic SIM?
The idea is called ‘Pic SIM’. Sounds weird but let me explain; how about a custom SIM card having your picture and name on it? So, here is my idea for the global telecom industry. A custom SIM designed for customers having there desired picture and name (or any text) on it. Continue Reading This Story
