Mobilink has roared after a deep silence; with an aggressive move by lowering off-net rates for all JAZZ packages. Though, marked as limited time offer (from Dec 7th 2008 to Jan 10, 2009), but as low as Rs. 1 per minute off net call rates, will give tough time to competitors. This major reduction in off-net call prices (despite interconnection charges) shows the sheer demand of competition in market, along with the requirment for Mobilink to get back the SIMs rolling.
Tariff plan has changed for all Mobilink Jazz Packages, where all off-net calls will now cost as on-net calls. For instance, for Jazz One package, than you will be charged Rs. 1 per minute for all networks including landline (Rs. 0.40 on first minute will apply).
So, now, Mobilink customers can enjoy one rate per every call for everyone on any chosen JAZZ package till the 10th of January 2009.

Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services has lowered its long-term corporate credit ratings on Orascom Telecom Holdings and Orascom Telecom Finance to ‘B’ from ‘B+’ following weaker growth expectations from its Pakistan- and Bangladesh-based operations.
The outlook is stable. At the same time, Standard & Poor’s lowered its issue rating on the $750 million senior unsecured notes issued by Orascom Telecom Finance to ‘CCC+’ from ‘B-’.
The downgrade primarily reflects our expectation of slower EBITDA growth from two of Orascom Telecom’s important future growth engines: its Pakistan-based 100%-owned subsidiary Pakistan Mobile Communications (Mobilink), which is the market leader in the Pakistan mobile telecoms market, and Sheba Telecom (Banglalink), the second-largest player of six in the fast-growing Bangladeshi mobile market. PTCL has announced Year 2008- 2009 as a year of Customer care. Yes! That’s true, and they are working to enhance customers’ experience and support facilities. How about giving a try to call 1217 (former 17), you are likely to get someone greeting you even before the bell rings. He/ she will be ready to deliver you services related to directory services. Directory services are known as services related to number inquiries, but if you will ask any other information from the same helpline, they will give you respective number for further help on a specific issue.
As customer help line mechanism is segmented on the basis of services, for instance for VAS you will have to dial “6” (to get connected with customer service representative for VAS information only). The important point to note is that “only for Value Added Services information” - meaning that for the rest of services, you might have to dial other digits to get connected with the other services information.
Customer services segmented channels strategy and customer queries diversification on the basis of nature of complaints is pretty good, but PTCL must communicate with massive advertisements (print , tvc’s etc) to their customers that for their help-line, their customers should dial respective helpline to get desired information, otherwise customer complaint will not be entertained efficently. PTCL bill can also be utilized for advertisement for the same purpose. Continue Reading This Story

PTCL has added a Network Operations Center or NOC to efficiently resolve countrywide network issues centrally from a single place. The central NOC facility of PTCL is located in Islamabad, while there are 3 regional NOC’s in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi respectively. Disaster Recovery would be done in Karachi.
Company’s press release said that the purpose of NOC is to control, monitor and manage the entire PTCL network and to enhance and optimize Network Management through a transparent and centralized platform. The NOC also helps to create a highly available, adaptable and fault resilient network that can meet the market demands and ensure customer satisfaction.
Earlier, PTCL use to face serious operational challenges, since there was no centralized network management for fault resolution. Service restoration use to take a long time. Besides there was no mechanism for root cause analysis. Continue Reading This Story
