PTA Approves PTCL’s Co-Location Charges Proposal

Posted by: Aamir Attaa on January 9, 2009 at 9:57 AM

Pakistan Telecom Authority has approved PTCL’s proposal for co-location charges that will increase by ten percent per annum, and increment will be applicable from January 1st of every year.

PTA sources has confirmed this co-location charges approval and said that it was concluded after taking input from Industry. New charges will be applicable from February 1st, 2009.

It merits mentioning here that PTCL has established Co-Location centers, where ISPs and other Telecom Data and IT Companies install their equipment directly in PTCL premises in ready fitted environment. The primary purpose is to provide a number of resilient and centralized connection and control facilities in which Co-Location center’s communication can be located.

In past telecom companies and ISPs had disputes over the co-location charges with respect to facilities provided at premises, however, with this decision it is hoped that situation will get better.

A Major Pakistani Telco & Its Poora Paaraa Customer Services

Posted by: Reality Bites on January 8, 2009 at 10:33 PM

This Cellular Company was launched in Pakistan couple of years back. So far it has become effective competitor in the context of subscriber base and the revenue share as well.

Company is best known for its corporate social responsibility, human resource management techniques and some other characteristics, but today I want to point out some loopholes, which are there, and are required to be rectified.

Customer Services:

When the word “Customer services” come to one’s mind, it is meant as quality, delicateness, complete information, courtesy, smile, obliging, problem resolutions and maximum network coverage etc.

However, with this company, if you are frequent caller than it may even dare to block your help-line access quota and may you get message that you will contacted shortly or “All operator are busy” and so on.

They need to pay attention towards IVR procedures and caller help line scheduling to provide maximum customer services on the 24/7 available helpline.

Agents are in Hurry:

Most of the time, if you are asking for another question, agent will adopt a tone, that will might give you feeling that “Agar iss say bad koi question poocha to number block kar donga”.

There is no courtesy like “Sir, iss k ilwa kuch poochnay chahyen gain”, instead they give an impression “Thanks for hanging up, Sir”.

Zong and its “Dormant Subscribers Offer”

Posted by: Reality Bites on January 8, 2009 at 10:16 PM

As I have discussed in my previous articles about the importance of customer retention, better, late than never, Zong has reacted intelligently and launched Dormant Subscribers promo couple of weeks back.

This promo comprises of recharge-based incentives, in which if dormant customer will recharge Rs.100 on its dormant connection since 1st September 2008 will get Rs.100 free minutes and 100 SMS and if subsequently continues to recharge, customer will get 15 free minutes and 15 free SMS.

let me remind all of you, about what I had discussed/predicted in my previous articles that Zong could lose its customer base, if they won’t invest invest in brand management, media promotion management and to revise their BYN service fake bookings. We also cannot ignore certain chances of other reasons like “Weak Customer Services, Network Coverage Areas and no customer loyalty development programmes .

As this promo is proof , that Zong has list of “Dormant” (inactive) subscribers and the chunk they selected is from September 1st , 2008 also shows that Zong has got very good response in start for new acquisitions. However, quickly, customers become inactive and main reasons are what I already discussed many times.

Certified Ethical Hackers and CSPs In Pakistan

Posted by: Masroor on January 8, 2009 at 7:46 PM

Whenever we hear a word “Hacker”, by default we get a negative impact in our minds. At the same time, we need to know that there is a better side of (ethical) hacking we can in fact relate (ethical) hacking for debugging in our information systems.

An Ethical Hacker is an expert, which are normally hired by corporations to attempt to retrieve their network and computer systems the same way a hacker would. Ethical Hackers use the same techniques and tactics as those used by illegal hackers to breach corporate security systems. Resultantly, these ethical hackers figure out those breaches and security flaws with-in information systems and enhances company’s ability to prevent an intrusion before it ever occurs.

A company can’t know if their security system is solid unless they test it. It’s hard, though, for a company’s IT team to thoroughly ring out the system. Try as they might, the techs can’t go at the system with all the malicious or mischievous motives of a true illegal hacker. To thoroughly uncover vulnerabilities, the theory goes; you must examine your security system through the eyes of an illegal hacker.

Low Price = Low Quality Products

Posted by: Abu Asma on January 6, 2009 at 5:43 PM

laptop_markets_pakistan-300x225 Low Price = Low Quality ProductsShoaib Cheema was very excited when he purchased a laptop from Karkhana Market of Peshawar for just Rs 4700. It was a new IBM think pad and the original price was Rs. 5500. However, he got successful in getting some relief from Khan Sahab with some requests to lower the price.

“It was a wonderful deal - my dream of having a laptop at last turned true”, stated Shoaib when he reached back Rawalpindi. They are really different people with different attitude. Apparently, he was very impressed with the happenings.

But, soon his happiness went away when he came to know that his lap top was without genuine IBM battery which costs Rs. 7000/- in the local market. He was very upset but the time had gone and nothing could be done to change the fate of poor Shoiab.

Now he can use that lap top as p-III while charging directly with AC power. When he visited the blue area market he came to know that he could even purchase a Toshiba laptop of just Rs. 8000/-. He then thought that it could be wise to purchase a laptop form the local market instead of going to Peshawar.
